      *BORN ON A MONDAY*
      *EPISODE IV*

      *DO IT AGAIN!*

Many fail to recognise that one of the great advantages of being part of a team, a job or even school is the superpower of developing expertise by doing one or several things over & over again.

It was said (as told by Dan Dailey) that Thomas Edison had worked on his invention for years & when he finally got it right, he then set about the task of making light bulbs. But, since there was no such thing as mass production at the time, each bulb had to be made by hand and it took his team 24 straight hours of painful work to make just one bulb.

When they had fabricated that first light bulb, Edison turned and surveyed each of his co-workers & after surveying them all, Edison handed the light bulb to a young boy who was helping in the lab, entrusting him with the very delicate task of carrying the first light bulb ever produced upstairs and placing it gently into a vacuum machine.

Needless to say, this bulb was very precious and the boy knew it. Step by step he cautiously watched his hands, obviously frightened of dropping such a priceless piece of work.

But the boy was concentrating so hard on making sure that the bulb didn’t slip from his hands that he forgot to watch his feet. He tripped at the top of the stairs and dropped the bulb and it shattered.

Undeterred by the setback, Edison put his team back to work. Their effort to construct the second light bulb consumed an additional 24 hours.

Exhausted from so much work and ready for a break, Edison was ready to have his bulb carried up the stairs again. He once again looked around and surveyed each of his co-workers to determine who would carry the bulb upstairs.
Everyone was shocked when Edison selected the young boy who had dropped it the first time. Edison knew that the boy was probably devastated by the first incident. He decided to give the boy another chance. This time the boy successfully completed his task.

Great work is usually achieved by those that have gone through repetition.

The hardest task is often hardest the first time. It usually gets easier after that.

Repetition corrects your mistakes & makes you more confident.

It makes you more compassionate & forgiving, increases your creativity & makes you an expert.

Great leaders & mentors recognise this & help their mentees build character & skills by multiplying their chances.

*But I must warn that we must not wait for the hero that will continue to create chances for us. If you find yourself in places where you aren’t allowed to make mistakes, don’t you let it damage your sense of purpose & self esteem!*

Refuse to be bogged down by your initial failures.

      *Just do it again!*

Create your own chances wherever & whenever you can & do it again!

      Don’t stifle your development.

Don’t care if you’re laughed at.

Ignore those that will mock you.

      Do it again!

*Someone said that good players practice until they get it right but the best players practice until they can’t get it wrong.*

Have that mindset for your work!

      Do it again!

*1. Do it now:* Act as quickly as possible. Be known as the Doer!

*2. Do it well:* Apply yourself fully & commit to it in order to do the best work.

*3. Do it again:* Become the expert. Embrace the boredom & monotony until you can do it with your eyes closed.

Do it again & again until you shine & can’t be ignored.

Have a great week & see you next Monday!

      Cheers!
