Feyisayo is with Abdullahi Bello Umar and 7 others
When I applied to the school of Psychiatric nursing, I was called for an interview.
So I was asked why I wanted to become a mental health nurse. I looked at the panel lost for words. Suddenly I blurted out.
I said I wanted to become a mental health nurse because in years to come, mental health professionals will rule the world 🤣🤣
Z for audacity 😂😂
Everyone on the panel started laughing but then I was offered admission.
Now whenever I reflect on happenings around me I have a silent fear.
Will mental health professionals not rule the world truly?
If this will happen positively, it would have gladdened my heart.
Positively in the sense that more people understanding how to maintain their mental health and take responsibility for doing so.
More people understanding that when they have mental health issues, the first place they should think about is the hospital or a professional.
…..but when I see how people mindlessly engage in substance abuse
…..when I see unintentional parenting style
…..when I see how people make life defining decisions without hindsight
…..when I see how family dynamics are carelessly and mindlessly executed
…..when I see how people place less and less value on social capital.
I have a fear in the core of my being.
All the above are important determinants of both physical and mental health of individuals, families and nations.
I always say if health is wealth, mental health is transgenerational wealth.
Everyone you meet/will ever meet, every circumstances you have encountered/will ever encounter is looking for just one thing.
Your mind!!!
Everything is a mind game. Whoever has your mind has your being.
Anyway let me introduce myself to you again.
